“Football”, “Soccer”, or when in Russia, “футбольный”, whatever you call it, this dynamic sport has nations coming together to cheer on their local or favorite teams in the 2018 Fifa World Cup. Just two weeks in, we’re about halfway through this exciting tournament, and at Sweetspot, we’ve been following along and sharing up-to-date stats and fun facts in our Free World Cup Dashboard (see instructions for how to access it below).

To give you a little preview and to share some of the highlights from this week here are a few stats you can expect to find in the free World Cup dashboard:

  1. Panama is playing in their very first World Cup, so Sunday’s goal was a massive victory given it was their very first goal scored in a World Cup game. Panama’s captain, Felipe Baloy, when nobody expected it, scored Panama’s maiden goal and became, at 37 years old, the fourth-oldest scorer in the competition’s history.
  2. When Essam El Hadary (Egypt) entered the Volgograd Arena to face Saudi Arabia, he made history as the oldest person ever to play at the Fifa World Cup. Not happy with just being part of the game, he proved himself by blocking a thunderous penalty kick from Fahad Al Muwallad.
  3. Almost exactly four years ago to the day, in Brazil, Marcos Rojo (Argentina) scored the match-winning goal against Nigeria in the group phase. Rojo proved history could repeat itself, when he did it all over again this year, advancing La Albiceleste through to Phase 2.
