In honor of International Women’s Day, we’re taking a look at women’s participation in the workforce. It might surprise you to know that while women comprise more than half the population, and have outnumbered men in the attainment of tertiary degrees for over 3 decades, that we’re underrepresented at every level of the organization.
While some industries show greater representation of women at entry level, it’s apparent that that universally speaking we don’t tend to progress at the same rates as our male counterparts. Additionally, we also earn less over the span of our working lives. If you’re shocked by this conclusion, you’re not alone – almost 30% of individuals don’t recognize the gender pay gap.
